Science, production, industry Due to the lack of competition, cost reductions can be achieved primarily through precise requirements planning. in the corresponding sectors, the savings potential is very high.

The exact specification of the gases to be procured is important. It starts with the delivery form and the aggregate state and ends with the purity of the gases.

The market structure is dominated by five major suppliers. For companies that are branched out and work with locations and have a flexible need for technical gases (in cylinder form), the large suppliers are better suited to cover the required range of gases with a secure supply. Rental bottles can also be easily returned on site and purchased again.

When it comes to stable demand for one or fewer gases, the specialized providers are the better alternative in terms of price.

case studies

  • A plant manufacturer was able to obtain better conditions from the existing supplier through a tender for the contracts. The nationwide framework agreement with a three-year term was concluded for the beginning of the following year, but the new conditions became cost-effective immediately. The annual savings of almost 29 percent achieved were further improved with a one-time saving of 30,000 euros when booking rental bottles.
  • A construction company used to have its own supplier for each of its technical gases. One supplier in particular was unable to meet the conditions and, through his own fault, made an extraordinary termination of the contract and a new tender possible. This change with adjusted technical specifications resulted in savings of 38 percent.
  • A research facility spent a six-figure amount every year on technical gases, which it obtained from a supplier. In addition to availability, price and quality, the tender also included specially required gases such as nitrogen. In terms of price, all offers were almost half cheaper than the existing provider, whereupon the latter reacted and the best offer realized savings of 60 percent.
